Manfrotto 055CXPRO3 Carbon Fibre Tripod 3 Leg Sections. The tripod specifically designed for extreme outdoor assignments.
The new 055 carbon fibre 3-section tripod delivers maximum rigidity from the lightest components; a masterpiece of engineering designed for photographers who want the best from their tripod and need it to be easily transportable. The 100% carbon fibre tubes and new QPL leg locking system increase the tripod’s rigidity and absorb vibrations, stabilizing camera equipment under any conditions. Carbon fibre tubing and magnesium castings also reduce the weight of this tripod compared to the equivalent aluminium version.
A bubble level is built in to the top of the centre column for precise framing. The bubble level rotates freely around the centre column, so it can be positioned wherever it's easiest for you to see it while adjusting the tripod, and without it either being obscured by the mounted head and camera, or getting in the way of head or camera controls.
Quick Power Lock
With the new 055 camera stability is guaranteed more than ever.
Compared with the classical locking levers, the QPL allow to apply extra locking power to the leg locks which, in turn, increase the stiffness of the tripod and enable it to support a higher payload.
Higher locking power does not mean compromise on ergonomics: QPL have a 1 Hand Opening mechanism which cuts the set up time and makes the operation comfortable.
The new horizontal column mechanism combined with the 4 leg angles allows the new 055 to smoothly reach whatever camera position you have in mind.
The Easy Link attachment, allows to convert the new 055 in a portable photographic studio.
By simply attaching an arm with an LED light, a reflector, or any other accessory, the new 055 goes beyond the classic boundaries of tripods’ functionalities.
- A unique sliding centre column that can be operated in either a vertical or horizontal plane.
- Each leg can be independently set at 4 angles of spread.
- Spirit level.
- Easy link socket for inserting arms
- Quick Power Lock levers that allow to easily open all the levers simultaneously
- Hook for hanging a counterweight and for a strap

Tripod bought to replace a 20 year old Manfrotto aluminium tripod that was becoming troublesome to use. New tripod is a major improvement. It is much easier to use. Only used once so far but I am impressed by its solid construction and good design.

Ordered this tripod for use with my Nikon D7100 & battery pack, Sigma 150-600mm Sport and a gimbal head- a hefty set up. I chose this tripod after I decided that this sat nicely between Manfrottos' 190 series and the 057 series. The tripod holds the above set up perfectly; the tripods weight limit is 9kg not 8kg. I am around 6ft tall. With the legs fully extended the viewfinder is exactly at my eye level when using the gimbal head- another reason why I went for this tripod.

I bought this tripod on Simon Kings recommendation in the video produced to advertise Manfrotto products. The tripod is great and I also bought the fluid head to go with it. But after buying the Manfrotto 349 Hide Clamp I realised that the central column on the tripod does not come right out, rendering my brand new hide clamp redundant. Not fair after shelling out another £76.
