Choose a tent around the way you travel

For solo backpacking, compare carrying weight with the space you need to sleep, sit up and store equipment. A two-person tent offers shared sleeping space, while selected models have separate side entrances and porches so both campers can get in and out more easily. Three-person designs provide additional capacity for small-group trips.

For bikepacking, check packed length as well as weight. A short pole set can make a useful difference when fitting a shelter into your luggage. When comparing weights, use equivalent figures: a minimum-weight configuration may include fewer components than the complete packed tent.
