As with all extras, they are expensive. Very good fit and quality so if you want/need one then forget the price. I use Manfrotto system so have mounted it on a 410 plate to fit on adapter to sliding plate on a 502 head and found it easier to slide this plate when taking off camera and leave the spotting scope rail untouched. You may wonder why I need this rail, and so did I, but the weight of scope/camera is very different to a 500+1.4 set up so no regrets.
