The Sidewinder's 30mm body encompasses a high quality optical system with ETE (Edge to Edge) coated glass. This in turn provides sharp, bright and high resolution viewing in all light conditions.
The lens configurations have been carefully selected to offer the optimum performance in low light conditions, whilst offering excellent range finding properties - The Sidewinder features a side focusing system designed to parallax from 10yds to infinity.
The reticle illumination brightness adjustment is positioned on the side focus turret. This allows 5 red and 5 green settings. The settings have been carefully considered to produce low enough illumination levels for dawn and dusk shooting.
The open sniper style turrets are calibrated to 1/4 M.O.A per click. To adjust the turrets the whole assembly is pulled up to unlock, then once adjusted they can be securely locked into position. The turrets are simply reset to "0" by loosening a hex screw on the top.
All Sidewinders come with a large 100mm side wheel, to enhance range finding, sunshade for overly bright conditions and metal flip-up covers to protect the outer lenses.

Optical clarity is OK, but there are quite a lot of chromatic aberrations. On my example, the turret collars didn't quite line up with where they should be, which is annoying. My main problem with this scope however, is that the reticle works in MRADs, whilst the turrets work in MOAs – two completely incompatible units of angular measurement that render the reticle nothing more than 'decorative'. This is quite an unforgivable mistake to be making nowadays?

This is a long, target-biased scope that suits a big rifle like the Mk4, but not necessarily a smaller, lighter one, and it would obscure the breech on most springers. Measure before buying! The @20x reticle is different from the @10x of the 4-16x50 - goes almost to the edge of view. Build quality and finish all seem good. and the wide choice of models available from Hawke means no need to compromise on specification.
