I wanted a bait runner style of reel suitable for use with 8 to 12lb main lines. After researching and handling a few reels it boiled down to either the Daiwa Black Widow BR3500 or the better built but slightly more expensive Daiwa Emcast 3500A. These reels are near enough identical the Emcast being built with higher grade materials and more bearings. It is also supplied with two handles (single and twin) and a spare spool where the Black Widow isnt. I went with the Emcast as I wanted a spare spool and the extra cost of this for a Black Widow then makes the overall price different negligible. I am pleased with my choice the reel is solidly built runs very smoothly the drag and free spool operation are smooth and easily adjusted across a wide range. I cant comment on long term yet use but the build quality gives every confidence of a reel that will give many seasons of use. I bought this as a replacement from another seller that had problems with the bait runner from new so I returned it for a refund but wanted to move across my filled spools. I already have one of these that Ive had no problems with and this one seems fine.
