Gitzo GHF2W 2 Way Fluid Head. The Gitzo 2 Way Fluid Head provides the highest performance for birdwatchers and digiscopers with medium-sized spotting scopes, as well as for wildlife photographers and videographers using premium CSC or DSLR cameras with lenses up to 200mm. Birdwatching requires support equipment with specific features, but almost all the heads used by birdwatchers are video- or photo-dedicated supports that are usually larger, heavier and more complicated than they ideally need to be. Uniquely, the Gitzo 2 Way Fluid Head has been developed with a single objective in mind: to fully satisfy both birdwatchers and wildlife photographers shooting with up to medium telephoto lenses, as both are very similar needs.
The Gitzo 2 Way Fluid Head is an extremely compact fluid head with an essential, ergonomic design. This seemed like a lot to spend on a head but Im very pleased with it. Lovely smooth action and it easily balances my midweight scope (Opticron MM4 77) so you can readily move with a fingertip action. Theres some weight to it but not excessively so and the rules of engineering mean it probably wouldnt be as solid in use if it was lighter. Theres a fair amount of resistance but no stiction and only a moderate degree of adjustability but Im very happy with how it is. A total revelation compared to the head that came with my Benro Wild tripod. Theres no spirit level but my tripod and levelling base each have one. Whilst it is Arca Swiss compatible not all plates will fit but the supplied one is really secure. Im holding one back on quality as my first one of these was an ex demo from somewhere else and the body parts were working loose and I couldnt work out how I could access the screws to tighten it. But so far Im very pleased with it.
