It's very convenient to carry around and the image stabilisation does work very well. Some recent winds made viewing virtually impossible without the stabiliser. The magnification with the free eyepiece is 8-24x (not 12-36x). If you wear glasses, you won't be able to get your eye close enough to the eyepiece to avoid image cutoff above 8x. Although the objective lens is relatively small, I have no problem viewing our resident hedgehog emerging from her nest at dusk. Great value @ £299.

This is a really nice piece of kit bought for my 70th birthday present from my wife. I have tried it out briefly (my birthdays not until next week) and it works well stabilising the image even at the full 39x zoom setting on the free eyepiece. Its well made metal construction and far smaller than my Zeiss binoculars for carrying around on my daily walks. Ill give a more detailed review when Im actually able to use them properly.

I think these may be 3* for many glasses wearers and probably 4* at this price for those who dont.Price and service from Uttings was excellent (about £100 cheaper than similar setup on ebay! The image stabilisation works just fine at lower magnifications (X7 to say x10) as was the brightness in overcast daylight. I was unable to test effectively at higher magnification because I found difficult to use with my glasses. The manufacturers website states something along the lines of suitable for many glasses wearersFor me wearing my glasses it meant my eye was a fair distance from the eyepiece so at higher magnifications the image was a smaller circle in the eyepiece and difficult to keep in the centre. To use the technical terms at high magnification the exit pupil size was small and the eye relief distance from eyepiece is high ( with my glasses.)

I like the Opticron brand (great quality) and I must say I’m very impressed. It’s light, simple to use, easy to focus and zoom, and the image is excellent. However I can detect a slight shimmer now and again (the image stabiliser). There’s a cover for the objective lens which is fixed to the main body of the scope but there’s no similar cover for the eyepiece. It needs a soft case to keep it in. There are “Stay On The Scope” waterproof cases and it wouldn’t take too much effort to design one.

The MMS 160 is for the price a good piece of kit. The optics are sharp and clear at moderate magnification loosing a little edge definition at higher end magnification and in low light. The image stabilization works very well and is very useful for offhand use.
