HIKMICRO Thunder 2.0 19mm (256x192) Thermal Module and Clip-On Scope Adaptor FAQs

What level of image detail does the 256 × 192 thermal sensor provide?

The 256 × 192 sensor delivers clear thermal contrast rather than fine visual detail, making it ideal for detecting heat sources and identifying animals at typical air rifle and rimfire ranges. Its sub-35 mK NETD ensures good separation between targets and background, even in challenging conditions. This level of resolution is well suited to users prioritising detection over long-range identification.

How does the 19mm lens affect magnification and field of view?

The 19mm F1.0 lens provides a base magnification of 2.47×, offering a wide and usable field of view for close to mid-range shooting. At 100 metres, it delivers a field of view of 16.17 m × 12.13 m, helping maintain situational awareness. This configuration favours scanning and tracking rather than extreme zoom.

Is the Thunder 2.0 suitable for use as a clip-on device?

Yes, the Thunder 2.0 is designed to function as a thermal module and clip-on scope adaptor. Its compact dimensions and consistent optical alignment support clip-on use in appropriate setups. This allows shooters to retain their daytime optic while adding thermal capability.

How long does the battery last in real-world use?

The replaceable Li-ion battery provides at least 10 hours of continuous operation at 25°C with hotspot functions disabled. Actual runtime may vary depending on feature use, such as recording or Wi-Fi streaming. The ability to recharge batteries off the rifle improves flexibility during longer hunts.

Can the Thunder 2.0 record video and audio?

The unit supports onboard video recording and snapshot capture, stored on its built-in 16 GB EMMC memory. Audio recording is also supported, adding context to recorded footage. Recoil-activated recording ensures key moments are captured automatically.

What display technology does the Thunder 2.0 use?

The Thunder 2.0 uses a 0.39-inch OLED display with a resolution of 1024 × 768. This high-contrast display helps present thermal imagery clearly in both low-light and total darkness. Adjustable brightness and tone settings allow users to tailor the image to conditions.

How durable is the Thunder 2.0 for outdoor hunting?

The device is rated IP67, meaning it is fully protected against dust and temporary immersion in water. It also withstands recoil forces up to 1000 g/0.4 ms, making it suitable for use on appropriate firearms. Its operating temperature range from -30°C to +55°C supports year-round use.

Does the Thunder 2.0 support digital zoom?

Yes, the Thunder 2.0 offers digital zoom levels of 1×, 2×, 4×, and 8×. This allows users to enlarge targets when needed, though image sharpness will naturally decrease at higher zoom levels. Digital zoom is best used for confirmation rather than primary scanning.

What software features enhance the hunting experience?

The Thunder 2.0 includes features such as hotspot detection, hot track, distance measurement, and picture-in-picture mode. These tools assist with locating, tracking, and assessing targets more effectively. Integration with the HIKMICRO Sight app enables remote viewing and control via a smartphone.
