Zeiss Conquest Apia 85 Angled 24-60x Spotting Scope

The ZEISS Conquest Apia 85 Angled is a spotting scope for long-distance wildlife observation, combining an 85 mm objective lens with 24–60x magnification. Its HD optics deliver bright, detailed images in challenging light, including dawn, dusk and overcast conditions.

With an angled viewing configuration, ergonomic controls and a robust, weatherproof housing, it is designed for extended observation in demanding outdoor environments.

HD Optics for Long-Distance Observation

The 85 mm objective lens and 87% light transmission support bright viewing in poor light. ED glass and aspherical lens elements minimise chromatic aberrations and enhance colour fidelity, while ZEISS FieldFlattener technology delivers edge-to-edge sharpness.

The 24–60x zoom provides flexible magnification for observing wildlife and resolving fine structural details at extended distances. Field of view ranges from 40 to 23 metres at 1,000 metres, with close focusing below 3.5 metres.

Construction and Handling

The compact housing measures 333 mm long and weighs 1,820 g. Non-slip rubber armouring provides secure handling, while the mechanical design is optimised for stability with minimal weight.

Large focus and zoom wheels support precise adjustment, with the focus wheel positioned for a natural hand position. The included Throw Lever enables one-handed zoom and focus adjustment, and the Arca-Swiss-compatible foot provides convenient tripod mounting.

Weather Protection

The nitrogen-filled housing is rated IPX8, with watertightness specified at 2 metres for 2 hours. ZEISS LotuTec coating helps water and dirt roll off the optical surfaces, maintaining clear visibility in changing conditions.

ZEISS Conquest Apia 85 Angled Review

The ZEISS Conquest Apia 85 Angled combines a large objective lens with flexible zoom magnification for detailed wildlife observation at long distances. Its optical design, weather protection and ergonomic controls make it well suited to extended tripod-based viewing, particularly when light conditions are challenging.

ZEISS Conquest Apia 85 Angled Performance & Key Features

The 85 mm objective and 87% light transmission are central to its low-light capability, supporting bright images at dawn, dusk and in overcast weather. The 24–60x zoom offers scope for inspecting fine details at extended ranges. ED glass and aspherical elements reduce chromatic aberrations and enhance colour fidelity, while FieldFlattener technology maintains sharpness across the field of view.

Build Quality & Handling

The 333 mm housing keeps the scope compact, although its 1,820 g weight remains a consideration when carrying equipment over longer distances. Non-slip rubber armouring supports secure handling, while nitrogen filling and IPX8 watertightness protect the optics outdoors. LotuTec coating adds practical water and dirt repellence.

Is It Easy to Use?

Large focus and zoom wheels provide secure adjustment, with the focus control positioned for a natural hand position. The included Throw Lever supports one-handed operation, and the Arca-Swiss-compatible foot simplifies mounting on compatible tripod systems. A stable tripod-based setup supports steady, low-fatigue observation at higher magnifications.

Key Takeaways

The Conquest Apia 85 Angled offers a strong combination of light-gathering capability, detailed long-distance viewing and weatherproof construction. Its 24–60x zoom and HD optical design suit wildlife observers who prioritise brightness and fine detail. At 1,820 g, carrying weight deserves consideration alongside its compact dimensions. For Uttings customers seeking an angled scope for extended tripod-based observation, it provides a capable specification with optional smartphone digiscoping.
