Fulling Mill Dry Flies

Fulling Mill Buckey's Lovechild Fly. The Lovechild of a Grey Wulff & French Partridge - 2 of the most successful mayfly patterns on the chalk rivers. I wanted a fly that combined my favourite elements of both. This fly works throughout the Mayfly lifecycle, taken damp as a failed emerger, floating high as a dun and later in the hatch towards the evening as a spinner or spent. If I had to fish with only 1 mayfly pattern, this would be it.

Fulling Mill Jackie's Dark Olive Mayfly Dun Fly. There are times, owing to certain light conditions, that the Mayfly appear darker as they hatch, sometimes almost a dark brown. Trout tend to ignore the more conventional coloured, olive and yellow patterns on these days. When this occurs, this pattern is super effective, the trout picking it out with confidence. It has proven itself well over the last few seasons on Arrow and the other Loughs.

Fulling Mill Jackie's Olive Palomino Shuttlecock Fly. When Olives are hatching and trying to break through the surface film, these Olives can be easy pickings for fish.

Fulling Mill Jackie's Olive Palomino Parachute Orange Fly. When the olives are hatching there are times the adult or emerging duns get trapped in the surface film. They become a prime target for the trout as they can take them at their leisure knowing they are going nowhere. This pattern nails this scenario perfectly.

Fulling Mill Ronan's Tussock Cicada Fly. This dry fly represents a light brown cicada common in NZ through the summer months. If they’re on the water this fly is superb. It’s also a super fly to use as part of a dry - dropper setup as it’s very buoyant. Available from size 10 to 6.

Fulling Mill Ronan's Willow Grub Fly. The tiny killer! When trout lock in on these nothing else will do. This simple foam fly is a must if you’re planning a summer trip to NZ. Willows are common on the rivers throughout NZ and wherever the willows are, the grubs will be falling in and feeding the trout. I fish this about a foot from my indicator dry so that I know where it is!
