The Pulsar Symbion LRF DXR50 multispectral binoculars combine thermal imaging, 4K digital day and night viewing, and a built-in laser rangefinder. Designed for wildlife observation and long-range viewing across open terrain, the DXR50 lets you locate heat signatures, examine your surroundings through the digital channel and measure distance from one device.

Key features

  • Separate thermal and digital channels for observation by day, in twilight and at night.
  • Built-in focusable infrared illuminator for digital night vision.
  • Combined viewing mode displays thermal and digital images simultaneously using Picture-in-Picture.
  • Electronic image stabilisation helps reduce visible movement during handheld observation.
  • Integrated laser rangefinder with distance and angle measurement functions.
  • Built-in photo and video recording with audio, plus smartphone connectivity through Stream Vision 2.

Thermal imaging for locating heat signatures

The DXR50 pairs a 640 × 480 thermal sensor with a 50mm f/1.0 objective lens. Its system thermal sensitivity of less than 18mK helps distinguish small temperature differences between an animal and its surroundings, supporting observation when thermal contrast is low.

The thermal channel starts at 4x magnification, with digital zoom extending the range to 32x. This more magnified starting view suits observation across fields, hillsides and other open ground. The quoted thermal detection range is up to 2,300m for a deer-sized object; this describes detection rather than a guaranteed identification distance.

4K digital viewing from daylight into darkness

A separate 3840 × 2160 CMOS sensor provides full-colour digital viewing during daylight and twilight. For night-time observation, the digital channel offers a black-and-white image supported by the integrated 850nm infrared illuminator.

The illuminator is focusable, allowing its beam to be adjusted for the area being observed. Digital-channel magnification runs from 6.5x to 26x. The 4K specification describes the digital sensor; the AMOLED viewing display has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels.

View thermal and digital images together

Switch between channels as your observation needs change, or use Duo multispectral mode to display both at once. One channel fills the main viewing area while the other appears in a Picture-in-Picture window, allowing you to compare thermal information with the digital view without repeatedly switching between them.

Built-in laser rangefinder

The integrated laser rangefinder measures distances up to 1,500m, with a stated accuracy of ±1m. Target Position Angle and True Horizontal Distance functions provide additional information when observing uphill or downhill. Maximum ranging distance depends on the object and environmental conditions.

Bluetooth connectivity also supports the Stream Vision Ballistics app for users who want to work with ballistic profiles and range measurements.

Image adjustment and practical controls

Electronic image stabilisation helps counter handheld shake, particularly when using higher magnification. Nine thermal colour palettes let you choose how temperature differences appear, while Normal, High and Ultra sensitivity settings, image smoothing, brightness and contrast controls provide further adjustment.

Separate focusing controls serve the thermal and digital channels. The control ring handles zoom and menu navigation, with configurable control preferences for left- or right-handed operation. Adjustable eyepiece spacing and dioptre correction help you set up the binoculars for your eyes.

Record observations and connect your smartphone

Capture still photographs and video with sound directly to the 64GB internal memory. Stream Vision 2 connects a compatible Android or iOS device over Wi-Fi for live viewing, remote control, downloading recordings and installing firmware updates.

Both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands are supported, giving you a choice of connection settings for your mobile device and surroundings.

Field construction and rechargeable power

The magnesium alloy housing has an IP67 protection rating against dust and water ingress. Rubber eyecup covers protect the eyepieces when the binoculars are packed away, while the supplied tripod adaptor provides an option for stationary observation.

Two removable APS5 rechargeable batteries are included. The quoted operating time of up to 10 hours is the total available from two batteries at 22°C. Actual runtime varies with temperature and use of features including infrared illumination, recording, wireless connections and the rangefinder. USB-C Power Delivery also supports an external power supply.

Compare with similar Pulsar binoculars

Symbion DXR50 or Symbion DXT50?

The Pulsar Symbion LRF DXT50 combines a larger 1280 × 1024 thermal sensor with a lower 2x starting magnification and a wider 17.5° thermal field of view. That makes it the more suitable starting point for scanning woodland and mixed terrain.

The DXR50 starts at 4x with an 8.8° thermal field of view, giving a more magnified initial view across a narrower area. Choose it when that closer starting view is useful for observing across open ground. Both models combine thermal imaging with a 4K digital channel and have a quoted thermal detection range of 2,300m.

Symbion DXR50 or Merger XT50?

The Pulsar Merger LRF XT50 is a thermal-only alternative with a 1280 × 1024 sensor, 2x starting magnification and a 17.5° field of view. It is worth considering when your priority is wide-area thermal observation. The Symbion DXR50 adds a separate digital channel for colour daytime viewing and infrared-assisted night vision.
