Product Details

Manufacturer code: PUL-77518     |     Our code: 146389

The Pulsar Wildlife Alaris XQ30 is a compact thermal imaging monocular for locating wildlife and surveying habitats by day and night. A sensitive 384 × 288 sensor, 30mm f/1.2 lens and 2x starting magnification provide a practical combination for handheld searching, with Picture-in-Picture available for closer inspection.

Key features

  • 384 × 288 thermal sensor with adjustable image processing.
  • Variable magnification and Picture-in-Picture viewing.
  • Compact housing for carrying between observation points.
  • Selectable colour palettes and viewing adjustments.
  • Removable APS3 rechargeable battery.
  • Built-in recording and Wild Vision smartphone connectivity.

Thermal image and field of view

The 384 × 288, 17µm sensor works with a 30mm f/1.2 objective lens. At the 2x starting magnification, the horizontal field of view is 13.3°, equivalent to 23.3m at 100m. Digital zoom provides a closer view when you want to inspect an object already located.

The quoted detection range is up to 1,050m. This is a detection figure, not an identification guarantee; usable detail depends on the subject, distance and conditions.

Adjust image processing to the conditions

Sensor NETD is below 25mK, with system NETD below 20mK. Thermal sensitivity helps distinguish small temperature differences between a subject and its surroundings. Sensitivity amplification, brightness and contrast controls let you adjust the image as thermal contrast changes. A smoothing filter provides further adjustment. Choose from 9 thermal colour palettes with supporting current firmware to change the presentation of temperature differences.

Magnification and Picture-in-Picture

Picture-in-Picture displays a magnified inset while retaining the wider scene in the main viewing area. This allows closer examination of an object without filling the entire display with the zoomed view. Magnification can be adjusted through the 2–8x range.

Compact handling and weather protection

The compact magnesium alloy housing is designed for carrying between observation points. Separate objective and eyepiece focusing controls let you adjust the scene and display to your eyes. IPX7 waterproof protection supports use in wet weather, while a mounting connection provides an option for supported observation.

Stadiametric distance estimation

The stadiametric rangefinder estimates distance by comparing an object’s apparent size with a known reference height. Adjust the on-screen markers around the subject to obtain an approximate distance, using the appropriate reference object.

Rechargeable power

The removable APS3 rechargeable battery can be exchanged for a separately purchased spare during longer outings. USB-C supports charging and external power. Actual endurance depends on temperature, recording and wireless use.

Recording and smartphone connectivity

Capture still photographs and video with sound directly to the 16GB internal memory. Wild Vision connects a compatible Android or iOS smartphone or tablet for live viewing, remote control, downloading files and firmware updates. Dual-band Wi-Fi supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz connections.

Compare with similar models

Wildlife Alaris XQ30 or Alaris XG30?

Compare the Pulsar Alaris XG30. The XG30 offers a 640 × 480 sensor, wider 14.6° field of view and 64GB recording memory. The XQ30 has a lower published system NETD, so compare sensitivity as well as pixel count.

Wildlife Alaris XQ30 or Axion Compact XQ19?

Compare the Pulsar Axion Compact XQ19. The XQ19 has the same sensor resolution but a lower 1.5x starting magnification and wider 19.5° view. Its companion app is Stream Vision 2, whereas Alaris uses Wild Vision.
