Douglas Sky G, Upstream and DXF Fly Rods
Explore Douglas fly rods with distinct casting approaches, from softer-feeling Upstream models to Sky G freshwater rods, dedicated saltwater designs and longer nymphing options.
Sky G Freshwater Rods
The Sky G range includes 8ft 6in and 9ft #4 models, a 9ft #5 and a 9ft #6. These provide different combinations of length and line weight rather than one specification repeated across the range.
The Sky G 9ft #5 combines a moderately fast action with G-Tec platelets in its blank construction. Its fittings include titanium guides, a cork grip and an aluminium rod tube.
Upstream: A Softer Casting Feel
The Upstream range offers lightweight rods with actions reminiscent of bamboo or glass. The 7ft 3in #3 and 8ft 3in #3 share a line rating but provide different reach and handling.
The shorter model is easier to manoeuvre around restricted bankside space, while the longer version adds reach without changing to a heavier line class. Both provide an alternative to the quicker response of the Sky G freshwater casting models.
Upstream Plus: More Length and a Quicker Response
The Upstream Plus 9ft #4 adds length, a slightly faster action and additional power compared with the original Upstream designs. It is a distinct option for anglers who like the presentation-focused approach but want a different response.
Longer Rods for Nymphing and Line Control
The Sky G selection includes 10ft models in #2, #3 and #4. Their additional reach is useful for managing leaders and controlling river drifts.
The DXF 10ft #4 provides another longer freshwater option, using a four-piece construction and XMatrix carbon blank. It is a separate design from the Sky G models, despite overlapping in length and line rating.
Sky G Saltwater Models
The Sky G Saltwater 9ft #6 is a dedicated saltwater version. A freshwater rod with the same length and line rating should not automatically be treated as having identical fittings or intended use.
Follow the care instructions for the individual model after saltwater fishing.
